IMPORTANT NOTE:
The first five chapters which represent the core process of
installing a rule, developing motivation around that rule,
identifying every last limiting belief which prevents you from
achieving that rule, finding the logical flaws in those limiting
beliefs, and achieving 100% confidence you can follow that rule
forever are illustrated here. Not every chapter is
represented by an audio exercise example, and not every full
interview example illustrates every exercise. The workbook is a
compilation of ALL the exercises Glenn has used to execute the
coaching process with successful clients and represents his best
thinking. These example audios were compiled over many
years and each interview only relied on a few techniques at a
time.
00:00 to 1:05 --> Amy discusses her history with weight,
diabetes, and treatment.
01:30 to 2:20 --> Coming to terms with her
perceived limitations of the medical profession
02:30 to 2:55 --> Amy reveals her addiction to
sugar and flour
03:00 to 4:17 --> Talks about the One Simple
Rule which got her started (about soda), and zeroes in on
the next rule she wishes to create - to never eat flour and/or
sugar again.
04:30 to 6:10 --> Ruthlessly eliminating ALL
ambiguity from her new rule!
06:11 to 6:22 --> Checking to be sure the new
rule is not too restrictive, as discussed in Exercise 1B of the
Workbook. (The entire process for coming up with One
Simple Rule is covered in Chapter One of the Workbook, Exercises
1A thru 1C.)
06:25 to 8:21 --> Probing for the positive
elements of Amy's "Big Why"
(Exercise 2A in the
Workbook).
8:21 to 9:15 --> Note how relentless I am with
Amy in order to unearth the detailed motivation behind
the every little positive element of the future she imagines if
she complies with her new Food Rule. For example, I would
NOT let Amy get away with just saying "I'd have more energy."
Instead, I probed to find out what she wanted to DO with that
energy, and insisted she paint me a visual picture of what her
finished projects would look like, and how it would feel to have
done them. Furthermore, it's NOT an accident I kept going
until she was expressing emotion (laughter), nor that I joined
with her in this emotion to reinforce it.
You want to emotionally
root yourself in as much detail as you can about the positive
future which is waiting for you. You
are, after all, painting a picture of what your personal Heaven
will be like!
9:45 to 10:03 --> Good Interview #of making a very
specific piece of clothing a motivational tool in your Big Why
10:30 to 11:15 --> Emphasizing the imagined
change in relationship (being a better role model for her
husband) due to complying with her Food Rule
11:15 to 11:45 --> The financial ramifications
($500/year saved) of complying with her new rule.
11:45 to 12:36 --> Briefly discussing the
negative future which awaits Amy if she does NOT comply with the
new Food Rule. Probing for negative motivation or the
"Ghost of Christmas Future." (Exercise 2D - we only
touched on this briefly in this particular session, but the area
we covered was very powerful. You should cover ALL the
areas in Exercise 2D however)
12:45 to 14:05 --> Soliciting all the Pig's
reasons for Amy to BREAK her new Rule. Note that we got
all these reasons on the table before we attempted to address
any of them so we could drain the Pig of its energy.
(This section corresponds to Exercise 3A in the Workbook)
14:07 to 17:42 Aggressively dis-empower
the Pig Squeals elicited above: "Where is the lie in these?"
Note how she spontaneously disputes some of them by pointing to
elements of her personal history where she overcame more serious
problems because she wanted something badly enough. "I
never gave up!" Do this where you can too - bring your
personal history of success into it! (This section
corresponds to Exercise 3C in the Workbook)
17:46 Begin the process of challenging the Pig
for 100% confidence, as outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
Note the "fifth ingredient on the label"
adjustment (Food Rule revision) which came out of this
challenge. This is perfectly permissible if you
encounter a Squeal you
19:30 - Understanding how to distinguish the
Pig's thoughts from Your thoughts
20:05 - 23:20 - Note how absolutely
ruthlessly I push Amy to a TRUE 100% confidence level.
I have to get EVERY last Squeal out of hiding. Be
ruthless with yourself like this.
23:25 - 24:00 - The "consciously and
purposefully clause" to protect your Food Plan.
24:00 to the end --> achieving 100%
confidence! (Exercise 5A)
Interview #2
Camilla's Pig Likes to Binge When
Her Business Causes Too Much Anxiety!
0:30 Background struggling with food when she feels anxious or
stressed by her work
1:15 Camilla presents her current Food Rules - plan she has been
attempting
2:55 Ruthlessly eliminating all ambiguity and redefining her
Food Rules more clearly and precisely. Note change in
language at approximately the 5 minute mark to use "never again"
as discussed in Exercise 1A of the workbook.
7:15 Brainstorming new rules for portion control
(Chapter 9
in workbook.)
10:05 Begin the Big Why motivational exercises.
(Chapter 2 exercises.) Same notes about motivational
exercises as Interview #1.
Note the strong connection between mastering her own eating
and building a successful business for herself.
(12:15 to 12:45)
Connection to happier and healthier romantic relationship
12:45 to 13:30
Mending relationships with difficult people 13:30 to 14:25
Parenting her daughter at 14:30.
Exercise more sanely at 15:30
18:03 - Soliciting all the Pig's reasons for Camilla to
BREAK her Food Plan. Note again we attempted to put all
these reasons on the table before we attempted to address any of
them so we could drain the Pig of its energy.
(This section corresponds to Exercise 3A in the Workbook.)
19:00
- Please note this ONE Squeal was particularly challenging
for Camilla, and it's my practice to aggressively intervene
to disempower ONE Squeal if the client feels overwhelmed by
it during this section. If I didn't Camilla would've
gotten stuck.
23:10 Camilla's Pig tricks me into doing it
with a SECOND Squeal.
27:05 Then a THIRD! This was a mistake
but it turned out OK.
Do NOT let your Pig make you do what Camilla tricked me into
doing here! Do not address more than ONE Squeal before
you get ALL the Squeals on the table. Otherwise it
will drain your energy too much to expose all the Squeals,
and the Pig will get to hide one to surprise you with later
on. But if there's ONE that troubles you too much then
dispute this one first before moving on.
32:23 Begin the process of challenging the Pig
for 100% confidence, as outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
34:00 Achieving 100% confidence! (Exercise 5A)
(Chapter 2 exercises.) Same notes about motivational
exercises as Interview #1.
Interview #3
Shellane Wants to Join
the "Skinny Bitches!"
00:00 to 1:50 How the Pig beat Shellane after she'd Caged it!
Describing the Conscious Pig Parties
1:50 to 3:12 Ruthlessly defining her One Simple Rule to get her
back on track
3:12 Begin the Big Why motivational exercises
3:30 to 4:00 Aches and pains eliminated. (Return to
review details at 6:15)
4:00 to 4:30 Job/Career would improve if she wasn't thinking
about food all the time
4:45 - Checking for nutritional adequacy and fulfillment
5:00 - Going back to redefine the One Simple Rule to create
exception/safety valve "Second rung around the bullseye."
As reviewed in Chapter 10 of the workbook.
6:25 - Could wear sexy clothes, look better, feel more
confident and outgoing, see her friends more often, etc.
(Follow up on details at 7:30 - wearing dresses)
7:00 - Could do "skinny bitch yoga"
7:35 Fully committing to the One Simple Rule. Note how I
keep checking for ambiguity and/or holes in the rules, need to
refine.
8:39 The Big Why Not --> Short example of facing the "Ghost of
Christmas Future" (Exercise 2D in the workbook).
It's best if you go through ALL the different prompts in this
exercise despite the brevity of this section of the interview.
9:32 Soliciting all the Pig's reasons for Shellane to BREAK her
One Simple Rule.
(This section corresponds to Exercise 3A in the Workbook.)
10:45 Begin disputing and logically
disempowering the Pig's lies. Note how energetically
Shellane goes through this section after having successfully
amped up her motivation. This should serve as motivation
for YOU to go through Chapter 2 in the workbook with zest and
detail. There is also a tremendous amount of valuable
information within
Shellane's disputations (and the help I provided her).
This brings the disputation logic presented in Chapter 3 to
life in an emphatic and emotional way.
20:18 Begin the process of challenging the Pig for 100%
confidence, as outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
This
was particularly easy with Shellane because we aggressively
uncovered and disempowered all of her Pig's Squeals.
20:37 to End: Dealing with the "Conscious Pig Party" Squeals.
01:00 - Review of her trigger foods and her reaction to gluten
01:45 - Narrowing down the definition of gluten vs. flour
03:32 - Reviewing her existing rules

04:35 - Helping Kate to understand the importance of "One Simple
Rule"
05:30 - Kate decides she wants to make ONE rule about gluten
06:30 - How defining One Simple Rule makes the Pig's voice clear
07:20 - Kate begins her Big Why and Big Why Not. Note my
depthful probing, and how I agitated certain negative
consequences, emphasized the positive ones
10:10 - Financial implications of never eating gluten again!
(Still part of the Big Why and Big Why Not)
11:15 - Summarizing her Big Why - note how powerful this example
was!
11:40 - Begin eliciting rationalizations for breaking One Simple
Rule. Note how I kept pushing even when she started saying
there were no more.
13:35 - My story about my patient who was a stalker
14:02 - Begin the process of challenging the Pig for 100%
confidence, as outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
Note how relentlessly I went after every last excuse in Kate's
case.
23:00 - Begin pushing Kate over the "inescapable void" with a
leap of faith. She gets there pretty quickly.
25:10 - The daily journaling challenge to force the Pig to give
up the element of surprise
00:21 Orientation - Chantelle's experience with Never Binge
Again and her perception that she's missing some Squeals
00:50 Chantelle's trouble with flour
01:38 Chantelle realizes there's no doctor out there
prescribing more sugar and flour... sorts out confusion between
grain recommendations and flour
02:28 Zeroes in on what might be logically best based upon
the facts she knows
02:50 Her Pig tries to win by keeping her chronically
ambivalent. We solve this using the techniques in Exercise
1C, then running the Big Why (Chapter 2 exercises) on both
possibilities.
03:45 Restating and clearly defining both options for One
Simple Rule
05:00 Begin transitioning the the Big Why
07:20 She begins to come more alive when she realizes she
could spend more time on her crafts and with her husband
08:20 Looking at the financial value of not binging
09:17 Comparing and contrasting the Big Why as it relates to
the two different possible rules
10:30 Begin listing out all the Pig's excuses to continue
binging.
(This section corresponds to Exercise 3A in the Workbook.)
11:33 Begin the process of challenging the Pig's excuses.
12:35 Discuss the particularly difficult Squeal of the
"Conscious Pig Party."
19:00 Begin the process of challenging the Pig for 100%
confidence, as outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
19:45 Crossing the inescapable void and finding 100%
confidence! ("If I never binge NOW then I'll never binge
again!")
00:21 Ali talks about having "fallen down" the rabbit hole and
binging like crazy
01:20 The "Confuse and Conquer" maneuver by the Pig
02:20 The Pig insists Ali lose weight quickly
(as a set up
for binging later).
03:00 Defining her Food Rules clearly.
04:30 Recapturing previous success and understanding how she
fell down.
06:20
Rats prefer sugar to cocaine.
06:45 The "Not Fast Enough" Squeal.
08:30 Becoming more realistic about weight loss goals.
10:00 The fate of the world doesn't depend on the size of Ali's
a___.
10:30 Begin transitioning the the Big Why
(Chapter 2).
12:12 Talking about being a better role model for her daughters
(the emotionally important part of the Big Why, note her
concern)
13:16 How her mother gave up on taking care of her own health.
Lit up a cigarette immediately upon leaving the hospital.
Note how I helped Ali make this an even more powerful "Ghost of
Christmas Future" (Exercise 2D). Note how emotional Ali
became when she really connected to this element of her
motivation.
17:00 REALLY agitating the Ghost of Christmas Future. This
was the essence of the motivational interview with Ali.
18:05
Validating what the Pig is stealing from her
18:45 Re-emphasizing hope and reversibility
19:15 Begin eliciting rationalizations for breaking her Food
Plan.
20:37 "One bite off Plan is a tragedy."
21:52 Why the fastest way to lose weight is slowly. Overcoming
the "not fast enough" Squeal (Chapter 3).
22:30 Slowly is the only way for Ali.
25:00 Attacking the Pig's "not fast enough" Squeal with an
atomic bomb.
26:30 Dealing with wine/alcohol.
28:30 The Time Machine Squeal. Solution "I never binge
now!"
29:53 Begin the process of challenging the Pig for 100%
confidence, as outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
Interview #7
Howie and Glenn Talk About
Overcoming Guilt and Shame
00:24 Framing the question. Should mothers feel guilty
about feeding their kids sugar in the womb?

especially something you can't do anything about, the odds are
you should let it go.
02:15 Howie provides examples from his own life.
03:30 The problem with holding onto old wounds.
04:45 Amor Fati. "Problems are from God, and so are
shoulders."
06:00 How excessive guilt burdens those around you more
than if you let it go.
06:55 Why an addiction to sugar is NOT at all impossible to
overcome.
07:20 The first hundred hours off sugar are the hardest.
07:30 You CAN opt out of sugar.
08:35 If this woman hadn't introduced sugar to her child then
society would've.
09:00 Why you'd have to raise a child in the equivalent of a
cult community in order to stop them from having a chocolate
chip cookie by the time they were 16.
9:40 How children grow from parental mistakes and empathic
failures, in additional great parenting!
11:30 Mistakes Glenn made early on in his practice that he felt
very guilty about. Example of how to get over the guilt.
12:15 Motivating yourself to change the world as the ultimate
solution.
13:20 Howie's parents told him he had the perfect childhood.
00:15 - Update on Liv's multi-year adventure with Never Binge
Again. She doesn't binge anymore "The name of the
game is staying in the game until you win the game!"
01:02 Having trouble with coffee.
01:15 Needs to give it up for her health. Adrenal exhaustion.
Bad digestion - better through diet but coffee messing it up.
01:52 Jump to Big Why Not "Ghost of Christmas Future) and
seriously agitate. (Exercise 2D).
02:25 Autoimmune problems, destroying the gut
with coffee.
Still part of the Ghost of Christmas Future
03:12 Doug Lisle reference that her Pig loves
03:36 The apology letter technique.
04:17 Leveraging the information technique for agitating the
Ghost of Christmas Future. What specifically does coffee
do that is so harmful?
05:15 Relating coffee to disturbed sleep and therefore
interference with all the important relationships in her life.
Coffee is isolating her.
06:15 Coffee is the antithesis of the feeling and state of mind
she seeks in Yoga
07:00 Begin eliciting the Pig's rationalizations for continuing
to drink coffee.
08:08 Her shirt that says "Death Before Decaf"
08:25 Begin listing out all the Pig's excuses to continue
binging. (This section corresponds to Exercise 3A in the Workbook.)

from addiction."
Approximately 20:15
Begin the process of challenging the Pig for 100% confidence, as
outlined in Chapter 4 (Exercises 4A
through 4C) of the Workbook.
21:39 Begin taking the "leap of faith"
(Exercise 5A)
23:00 Getting very close. The essence of having your
survival drive hijacked and how the leap of faith
